Biography:

With 10 years of experience in the symbiotic nitrogen fixation field, I started my career with my BS thesis where I worked with Rhizobium etli (symbiotic partner of Phaseolus vulgaris usually known as common bean, which is a very important agronomical crop in Mexico) strains that overproduced trehalose and their role in nodule tolerance to drought stress. After my BS, I completed the Biomedical PhD Program at the National University of Mexico working with common bean and the miRNA172 and its target gene the Transcription Factor (TF) APETALA2 (AP2) during nodule development and function. Currently I am a Postdoc at the Noble Research Institute where I work with Medicago truncatula and the role of several TF from the AP2 and WRKY families involved also in nodulation using the Medicago Tnt1 mutant collection. Finally, as a side project I am exploring the function of miR172 in the Medicago indeterminate nodules.

Research Areas:

  • Plant Biology
  • Nodulation
  • Medicago mutants

Current N-related Projects:

  • Functional genomics of AP2 and WRKY TF families in the symbiotic nitrogen fixation in Medicago truncatula
