Project Summary:

We investigate the genetic potential of the soil- and plant associated microbiome to catalyse major processes in the inorganic and organic nitrogen cycle using metagenomic approaches. By binning an assembly of larger contigs we want to understand the regulation of the genes of interest. Using metatranscriptomic approaches, we analyze which of the genes are induced by which type of management. We mostly address questions related to land use intensification in general and have another focus point which is dedicated to tillage issues. Processes of interest include mineralization, nitrification, denitrification and N-fixation.
